Can Anyone Comment on Not Having Television?

I'd love to hear how folks occupy themselves if they don't have television. Its a distinct possibility come February of 2009, my hubby and I will be TV-less. There's no cable where we live, and when all TV signals go digital, we're done. We already got "the box" and it didn't work. We refuse to take on a monthly satellite charge (min of $30 a month). I'm thinking the Internet will become very useful. Your thoughts?

My Father doesn't have cable and he seems to get along just fine. I think he listens to a lot of talk radio and reads, when he's not outside.

I wish we could give up our tv habit.

Even though I have a telly now, I didn't for a while. Even now, I really don't watch it and would likely cancel it were it not for having guests who do enjoy it. Like DailySAHM said, I listen to the radio a lot, especially NPR, and enjoy the music from my CDs. Plus, I read and love looking through my seed catalogs these days! I think it is one of those things that seems hard to get into at first, but once the plunge is taken, the resourcefulness kicks in and it seems almost natural, just as much as watching the telly did.
